Advocating Physical Play by Gamecock Safeties

Standard

The Gamecock safeties need to bring a more aggressive brand of physical play. The 2014 style was too tentative. It looked like the Gamecock safeties were trying to avoid ejections and targeting penalties. I think I get it. The secondary lacked experienced depth. Prudence led to caution.

My hypothesis is that an abundance of interchangeable safety depth in 2015 will lead to a more aggressive style.

TJ Gurley: “This is JJ’s kind of game. Physical football game, that’s what he is, an in the box safety.” [Whammy Ward]

Look at this list of safeties. There is less need for caution. If one guy is tossed after making a bone-crushing hit, the next safety can step right up with no drop off in talent or aggression.
