The Gamecocks are likely to open the 2016 season starting two wide receivers who have just twelve career receptions between them. Nobody in the SEC is going to respect that yet.
But both Deebo Samuel and Bryan Edwards have received high praise from the coaching staff for their talent and work effort. Soon it will be time to put up.
Vanderbilt’s two starting defensive cornerbacks return for the 2016 season and both are good.
Consequently, it is easy to anticipate the Vanderbilt defensive game plan. Lock down the Gamecocks young wide receivers in one on one coverage and put eight or nine defenders in the box. Use superior numbers to slow the Gamecocks power running and quick passing attacks.
Samuel, Edwards, and the quarterbacks are going to need to make explosive plays to make the defense play honest. The opportunity will be there. Once a few take place, Vanderbilt must provide safety help and that opens up the offense.
